Bridging the Gap - A Truth About Youth Project

Age UK Plymouth is an independent local charity, which has operated for over 70 years in the city of Plymouth. They provide a variety of services to over 1000 people over the age of 50 every week, including those who may be vulnerable or socially isolated. They also provide services for carers of people over the age of 50.

This summer we are planning to work with residents and clients of the William and Patricia Venton Centre in the Mount Gould area of Age UK Plymouth. We are hoping to capture the essence of and personalities of the characters who use the centre, through portrait photography and short interviews on film. We are keen to hear about the lives of the older community when they were young people; what music did they listen to?, what did they do in their spare time? What was family life like?  We also want to hear about their childhood dreams and hopes for the future, their regrets and loves.

We are planning on exhibiting our work at a final celebration event on Friday 14th August at the centre, where family and friends will come together to view our portraits and films. To make it even more of a celebration, we will be holding a tea dance so that we can really conclude the project in a themed 1950's style!

As part of the project our young people will be able to gain a Bronze Arts Award, which is a nationally recognized qualification.
